ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS


Applicants must be 20 years of age, having not reached their 36th birthday to take the test and be hired.

REQUIRED AT THE TIME OF HIRE:
• Shall be certified as a basic firefighter by the Texas Commission on Fire Protection, and minimum of Basic Emergency Medical Technician by the Texas Department of State Health Services
• High School diploma or equivalent,
• Must be able to pass a polygraph test, department interview and drug screen

 

PROCEDURE FOR PROCESSING APPLICATIONS

  1. Submit your application for employment with the City of Lufkin’s Human Resource Department along with supporting documentation including copy of military service discharge papers (if applicable), and copy of current Texas Drivers License.
  2. Applicants that meet the ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS listed above will be allowed to take the Civil Service Entrance Examination for Entry level firefighter.
  3. Successful applicants will be subject to physical agility testing, background investigation and polygraph testing.
  4. Upon satisfactory completion of the above, the applicant will be made a conditional offer of employment pending the results of:
  1. Physical exam
  2. Test for the use of illicit drugs or alcohol
