ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Applicants must be between Eighteen and Thirty Five before beginning employment with the Department.
  • Applicants must be a graduate of an approved Fire Academy and Certifiable by the Texas Commission on Fire Protection - Personnel Standards and Education and EMT-Basic, or Texas Department of State Health Services certified Paramedic.
     
     
  • All applicants must comply with section 143.023 of the Texas Fire and Police Civil Service Laws for the State of Texas.
     
  • To be considered for employment, applicants must achieve a minimum score of 70 on the competitive entrance exam given by the Civil Service Director for the City of Lufkin’s Fire Department.
     
  • Applicants with an honorable discharge from active duty military service will receive an additional five- (5) points on the Civil Service Entrance Exam.


PROCEDURE FOR PROCESSING APPLICATIONS

  1. Submit your application for employment with the City of Lufkin’s Human Resource Department along with supporting documentation including copy of current fire and EMS certification, copy of military service discharge papers (if applicable), and copy of current Texas Drivers License.
  2. Applicants that meet the ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS listed above will be allowed to take the Civil Service Entrance Examination for Entry level firefighter.
  3. Successful applicants will be subject to physical agility testing, background investigation and polygraph testing.
  4. Upon satisfactory completion of the above, the applicant will be made a conditional offer of employment pending the results of:
  1. Physical exam
  2. Test for the use of illicit drugs or alcohol
