Mission Statement

Kurth Memorial Library exists to provide excellent, comprehensive, customer-oriented, cost effective information service to all citizens of Angelina County.  This will be accomplished by:

 

1. Providing well-trained, service oriented, knowledgeable, professional staff and demonstrating a commitment to staff development.

 

2. Providing an adequate number of library staff members to serve the community in library administration, reference, interlibrary loan, circulation, technical support, and technical services.

 

3. Making available in writing regularly evaluated library policies and procedures.

 

4. Providing excellent library print and non-print materials in a variety of formats and representing a variety of viewpoints.

 

5. Acknowledging a responsibility to keep abreast of developing trends in libraries and in information technology and to provide up-to-date connectivity to global databases.

 

6. Providing enrichment programming that targets all age groups and recognizes ethnic diversity in the community.

 

7. Providing fund-raising activities that create commitment and grass roots support for the library by a large cross section of the community.

 

8. Providing a professionally developed library core reference collection.

 

9. Providing an operational budget and a materials budget that reflect excellent future planning and anticipation of future developments in information resources.

 

10. Participating in the Houston Area Library System, resource-sharing, and library consortia.

 

11. Providing proactive library leadership.

 

12. Providing a well-maintained library physical facility that meets community expectations, American Library Association standards, and provides a positive working environment for employees.

 

13. Providing excellent and reviewed resources for study and research, pleasure and leisure, business, medicine, and travel, email and Internet.
