Kurth Memorial Library in Lufkin and best-selling author John Foxjohn invite the public to the book launch for his blockbuster novel, Tattered Justice on March 6th, 2010, from 11:00am-1:00pm.  Mr. Foxjohn will be in our large meeting room to discuss his most recent book, Tattered Justice.  Copies will be available for sale.  The library will serve refreshments and attendance is free to the public. For more information, see our website (www.kurthmemoriallibrary.com) or contact Mr. Foxjohn at www.johnfoxjohnhome.com.   We hope everyone will come out to enjoy the program by this award-winning local author.

The Genealogy Department would like to thank Karen Kurth Hall for donating a copy of The Gates Family of Patrick County, Virginia.  They also appreciate June Moffett for donating a copy of History of Jasper County, Mississippi.  If you are researching in Pennsylvania, they have added two volumes of York County Pennsylvania Church Records of the 18th Century and a two volume set of Genealogical and Personal History of Fayette County, Pennsylvania.  Ray County, Missouri History, Martin County, Kentucky History and A History of Uvalde County, Texas have also been added.

If you would like to do some internet research on your family, Ancestry Library Edition is available at no charge for patrons inside the library.  Heritage Quest and Footnote.com are available for use in the library as well as outside the library for those with current library cards.  New items are added to these data bases every week.  Stop in today and start digging up your roots.  If you need help accessing these databases, please ask in the Genealogy department.  Our Genealogy department also has an excellent collection of print materials that are available for those who wish to research their family trees, including books covering families from all across the country, not just here in Texas.  We also have a large collection of microfilm for back issues of the Lufkin Daily News.  We encourage anyone interested to come in and see what’s available.

AARP will be providing free Income Tax assistance at Kurth Memorial Library for senior citizens and low-income or disabled persons on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 am to 12 noon beginning on Tuesday, February 2, 2010.  There will be a sign-in sheet and patrons will be taken on a first come, first served basis.  You will need to have a copy of last year's income tax return, your social security card, and social security cards for any dependants.

Our new items this week include J. D. Robb’s Fantasy in Death, Robert B. Parker’s Split Image, V. C. Andrews’ Secret Whispers, Nancy Atherton’s Aunt Dimity Down Under, James Grippando’s Money to Burn, and Danielle Steel’s Big Girl.  Our patrons can also get a complete listing of our new arrivals in all areas of the library on our website (www.kurthmemoriallibrary.com), or you can see a printed listing by stopping at the Reference Desk.

Kurth Memorial Library is open 10am to 7pm on Monday, 9am to 6pm Tuesday through Thursday, 9am to 5:30 on Friday, and 9am to 1pm on Saturday.  We do not charge for membership, however, you must come in ahead of time to make application for a card in order to complete the address verification process.  Anyone who lives or works in Angelina County may apply for a library card.  You may not check out items the same day you apply for a card.  Replacement cards are $1.  Parents or legal guardians must apply for library cards for children under 18.  Children under the age of 12 should not be left at the library without adult supervision.
