Barbara Thompson has been Main Street Director
with the City of Lufkin since 2004. Prior to
becoming the Main Street Director, Barbara
served five years as a Congressional Aid for U S
Congressman Jim Turner.
Barbara is a native of Arkansas, where she
earned her Business Degree from Southern
Arkansas University.
She is active in the community where she serves
on the boards of Woodland Heights Medical Center
and Angelina Arts Alliance. She is a member of
the Angelina Historical Commission, The East
Texas Historical Commission, Angelina Beautiful
Clean, Lufkin Tourist and Convention Bureau,
Angelina Rotary Club, The City of Lufkin’s
Undoing Racism Task Force the Lufkin/Angelina
Chamber of Commerce and is a 2007 graduate of
Leadership Lufkin. She is also a member of the
National Forum of Black Public Administrators
and the National Main Street.
As Main Street Director, Barbara is responsible
for coordinating the activity of the Main Street
Program committees; managing administrative
aspects of the program; developing along with
the Board appropriate downtown revitalization
strategies, ongoing public awareness and
education programs. She also assists business
and property owners with property improvement
projects while encouraging a cooperative climate
with other downtown or community organizations.
Barbara serves as an advocate for downtown
issues on local, state and national levels.
