Barbara Thompson has been Main
Street Director with the City of Lufkin since 2004.
Prior to becoming the Main Street Director, Barbara
served five years as a Congressional Aid for U S
Congressman Jim Turner.
Barbara is a native of Arkansas, where she earned
her Business Degree from Southern Arkansas
University.
She is active in the community where she is a member
of the Rotary Club and serves on the boards of the
United Way, Angelina Arts Alliance, Angelina
Beautiful Clean, Lufkin Tourist and Convention
Bureau and the City of Lufkin’s Undoing Racism Task
Force.
As Main Street Director, Barbara is responsible for
coordinating the activity of the Main Street Program
committees; managing administrative aspects of the
program; developing along with the Board appropriate
downtown revitalization strategies, ongoing public
awareness and education programs. She also assists
business and property owners with property
improvement projects while encouraging a cooperative
climate with other downtown or community
organizations. Barbara serves as an advocate for
downtown issues on local, state and national levels.
