Membership Drive:
Main Street Lufkin annual membership drive.
Revenue from members goes toward a variety of downtown
improvements projects, such as landscaping, murals, and
façade enhancement grants. Membership revenue is never spent
on administrative cost.
20th Annual Downtown
Hoe Down;
Third Saturday
in April
In the early 1800s a hoedown was a community dancing party
with lively music. In Lufkin we take our Hoedown to the
streets for a 21st century version of the Hoedown. Arts and
craft vendors line the streets with a variety of food
vendors, children’s activities, and all-day entertainment on
two stages make our Hoedown a fun event for the entire
family.
9th Annual Heritage Festival:
On
Saturday, October 20th the 9th Annual Heritage Festival will
be held at
the Lufkin Civic Center. Performances at the festival included the
dancers from the Alabama Cou shatta Indian Reservation in
Livingston, Susan’s Studio of Dance and Mina Patel’s Indian
dancers. Everyone will be able to sample authentic foods and to learn how diverse the City
of Lufkin has become.
October Entertainment in the Park:
Main
Street Lufkin is proud to present "Entertainment in the
Park" each Friday in October. A variety of music groups
entertain during the noon lunch hour. All performances are
from 12 - 1 p.m. in Cotton Square Park in Downtown Lufkin!
Free to the public. For your convenience lunches are
provided at a reasonable price at the event. Prizes are
given during the event from downtown businesses. You have to
be present to win!.
June 14, Flag Day:
Strike up the band and come celebrate with
Main Street as we honor our nation’s flag and the freedoms
it represents. Flag Day is June 14th and each year Main
Street Lufkin sponsors a patriotic celebration of our flag
and nation’s heritage. Held in the atrium of Lufkin City
Hall the brief ceremony features music, speakers and closes
with the “Pause for the Pledge” at 6 p.m. Light refreshments
are served following the program.
The
Annual Heritage Festival, held each year on the third
Saturday in October honors the diversified cultural
background of all Lufkin’s residents. Held indoors at
the Lufkin Convention Center the festival features food,
music and children’s activities all designed to give the
community exposure to different customs and cultures.
Arts and crafts and information booths from civic and
service organizations add to the festival. Admission
to festival is free.
Entertainment in the Park:
Join us every Friday in
October noon – 1:00 pm at Cotton Square Park to kick off
your weekend with a little music and an affordable lunch
provided by a local restaurant. Whether your tastes run
to country, Southern gospel, jazz, rock and roll
classics or just good music, you’ll enjoy our free
concerts and we’ll send you off to your weekend with a
song in your heart!
Wednesday, October 31 , Downtown Halloween Trick-or-Treat:
Downtown
Merchants offer area children 12 and under a safe and
fun opportunity to trick or treat. Over 2,000 attend the
event. Businesses decorate and give candy to area
children. Participating businesses are awarded 1st,
2nd and 3rd place prizes for the
best window decorations and employee participation.
Churches, businesses and organizations are invited to
set up booths and pass out candy to the children which
adds to the festive atmosphere.
Main Street Annual lighted Christmas Parade
will be held on Tuesday following Thanksgiving.

Everyone
loves a parade and the Main Street Lufkin Lighted Christmas
Parade is one of the best. The parade winds through the
downtown streets of Lufkin with all the sights and sounds of
the holiday season. First, second and third place prizes are
awarded in commercial and non-commercial divisions. Santa
always has a place of honor on the float awarded for “Best
Theme Interpretation.” The parade helps bring in the holiday
season as Main Street Lufkin says “Merry Christmas” to the
community! The theme for the 2013 Christmas parade is
“Cowboy Christmas.”
Year-round attractions can be enjoyed in downtown Lufkin.
These include a Historic Walking Tour which starts in Cotton
Square Park, Colorful Historic Murals, unique dining
experiences and specialty shopping.
