Chief of Police
Chief of Police Gerald Williamson began his law enforcement career in Polk County, Texas in 1984, serving as a reserve deputy for Polk County Sheriff’s Office and a reserve officer for Livingston Police Department. He graduated from the University of Houston Police Academy in 1986 and served two years as a police officer in the Greater Houston area.
In August 1987, Chief Williamson moved to Lufkin and began his service to the citizens of Lufkin as an officer for the Lufkin Police Department. He served in Lufkin PD’s Patrol, Narcotics, Criminal Investigations, and Support Services sections until August 2009, when he was appointed Assistant Police Chief of Police.
Chief Williamson holds a Master Peace Officer Certification and has over 4,400 hours of law enforcement and management training. His law enforcement and management training were completed at Texas A&M in College Station and Stephen F. Austin in Nacogdoches, and through the International Association of Chiefs of Police; his certifications include that of Texas Certified Public Manager and IACP Leadership in Police Organizations.
Assistant Police Chief
Assistant Chief of Police David Thomas began his law enforcement
career in 1989 as a Patrolman for Lufkin Police
Department. He attended Southwest Texas State
University and graduated from the East Texas Police Academy.
During his 26 years of service to the citizens of Lufkin, Assistant
Chief Thomas held positions in Lufkin PD’s Patrol, Community
Policing, Criminal Investigations, and Special Services
sections. His assignment to multiple sections of the
Department provided him a wide knowledge base concerning all
aspects of departmental operations. He enters the
Assistant Chief of Police position from Lufkin PD's Special
Services Section where he was Sergeant, Range Master, and
Special Response Team Commander.
Assistant Chief Thomas holds numerous certifications through the
Texas Commission on Law Enforcement, including Master Peace
Officer and Advanced Instructor, and has completed more than
4,000 hours of law enforcement training.
In addition to Assistant Chief Thomas's duties for Lufkin PD, he is
an Adjunct Instructor through Texas State University where
he teaches Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training
to officers around the country.
He and his wife, Crystal, have two boys, Garrett and Garrison.

Detective Smith began his law enforcement career and service to the citizens of Lufkin January 1995 and currently serves as Lufkin Police Department’s Policy Manager and as Executive Director for Crime Stoppers of Lufkin, Inc. During his years with Lufkin Police Department, Detective Smith has served as Patrol Officer, Community Policing Officer, Crime Prevention Specialist, Training Coordinator/Instructor, Public Information Officer, and Detective and has achieved numerous certifications, including; Master Peace Officer, Certified Crime Prevention Specialist and Inspector, Crisis Negotiator, Advanced Law Enforcement Instructor, Mental Health Officer, and Texas Certified Public Manager.
Detective Smith’s Crime Prevention Inspector certification and experience as Community Policing Officer led him to being the originator of the Texans Against Crime program, a statewide police-community crime prevention program. October 2015, Governor Abbott appointed Detective Smith to the Texas Crime Stoppers Council and he is the lead connection for Crime Stoppers of Lufkin and Deep East Texas Crime Stoppers.

Media Specialist Jessica Pebsworth began her communications career as the The Lufkin News’ crime reporter in 2009. After spending six years at The Lufkin News, she joined the department’s administrative team in June 2015. She is the first civilian to hold the role previously titled “public information officer.”
Jessica Pebsworth graduated from Stephen F. Austin State University in 2007 with a bachelor’s degree in communications and minor in anthropology. After college she spent two years working in Houston and Dallas in human resources recruiting before returning home to her first love of journalism.
She oversees the department’s social media presence on Facebook, Twitter and YouTube, along with producing the daily media report. Jessica Pebsworth also handles the department’s open records requests under the guidelines of the Public Information Act.
