Chief Ted Lovett

Lufkin Fire Department


Chief Ted Lovett brings over 25 years of experience within the Lufkin Fire Department. Chief Lovett was employed by the City of Lufkin in 1986 as a dispatcher, and later that year in December became a probationary firefighter. After completing all required certifications and graduating from the Texas A&M fire academy in 1987 was assigned to fire station 1 downtown Lufkin. Completed Paramedic certification through Angelina College in 1989 and later assigned to the first dedicated Rescue squad. During that time was active on the first Hazardous Materials team and acquired HazMat Technician in which he is still certified.

In 1990 promoted to the rank of Lieutenant and spent the next several years at Station 1 and Station 4 while working part time at Woodland Heights Cardiac Cath. Lab, owned/operated underwater salvage business, contracted dive services through local dive shop, and served on the Angelina County Underwater Search and Rescue Team. Promoted to Captain in 1997 and was transferred to EMS/Supply Coordinator in Fire Administration. While in that position Lovett began absorbing the responsibilities of ordering EMS and Fire related equipment/apparatus which included standardizing the EMS Fleet with Frazer ambulances, and Pierce Fire Apparatus. Seeing the opportunity after the 911 terrorist attacks to capitalize on new grant opportunities, started experimenting with grants and has successfully written and acquired grants for over two million dollars in equipment such as: new fire apparatus, fire training simulator trailer, thermal imaging cameras, hazardous material detection equipment, Self Contained Breathing Apparatus, and numerous other equipment and training opportunities. In 2005 promoted to the rank of Battalion Chief and was assigned to the training office. Obtained degree in Fire Administration and graduated the Texas Fire Chiefs Academy as well as completed the Special Operations Program Management and Health and Safety Officer programs at the National Fire Academy in Emmitsburg Maryland. Instructor certified with the Department of State Health Services, Master firefighter, and Instructor II with the Texas Commission on Fire Protection. Serves on advisory board for Paramedic, and Fire programs at Angelina College, and continues to instruct at Fire Academy. State Advocate for the National Fallen Firefighters “Everyone Goes Home” program, and co-coordinator of the City of Lufkin Wellness and Fitness program.

Prior to the fire service, received an honorable discharge from the United States Air Force having served in Europe, and Stateside as a Munitions / Missile Systems Specialist.
