| The zoo is now taking more videos of the
animals. We are concentrating on activities you might not
be able to see when you visit such as animal checkups and other
"behind the scenes" activities. The zoo has recently
acquired an upgraded video camera and we will be able to bring
you videos of trips and conferences in addition to videos of our
animals. |

Sarabi,
the Ellen Trout Zoo's female lion received her physical exam on July
20. Dr. Mike Nance examined the lion for general health and
cleaned her teeth. The Jr. Zookeepers made paw prints from
Sarabi and were able to observe the physical. We have a
streaming
video of the examination. |

It's
A Boy! The Ellen Trout Zoo has a new giraffe calf. Pekua received his "well baby check" on July 6.
The calf was born on July 5.
We have
a video of the Zoo's veterinarian, Dr. Mike Nance, checking the
calf. He was assisted by Veterinary Assistant Rebecca Henry,
Assistant Collection Manager Allison Six, Mammal Keeper Elizabeth
Farmer, Mammal Keeper Erin Day, and Celia Falzone, the zoo's General
Curator. Pekua was given a quick physical, weighed, and
released outside with his parents for the first time. He
weighed 146 pounds and was 6 feet 2 inches tall. |
