CITY OF LUFKIN ORDER OF ELECTION

Issued 16th day of March, 2016 - An election is ordered to be held on May 7, 2016 for the purpose of a General Election for the City of Lufkin, Texas to be held at two (2) polling places in Lufkin, Texas between the hours of 7:00 a. m. and 7:00 p. m. for the purpose of electing a Councilmember for Ward No. 1 and a Councilmember for Ward No. 3, for three (3) year terms, to serve the City of Lufkin, Texas.


Early voting by personal appearance will be conducted in the Lufkin City Hall Atrium, 300 East Shepherd, Lufkin, Texas between the hours of 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on April 25th and 26th, 2016 and between the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on April 27th – 29th and May 1st - 3rd, 2016.


Applications for ballot by mail shall be delivered to:

The City of Lufkin Municipal Court Receives State Award..

March 2, 2016:Austin —The Texas Municipal Courts Education Center’s (TMCEC) Municipal Traffic Safety Initiatives (MTSI) grant, funded by the Texas Department of Transportation, recently sponsored a traffic safety awards competition to recognize those municipal courts that have demonstrated outstanding contributions to traffic safety and eliminating impaired driving in their respective communities. All municipal courts in the State of Texas were eligible to apply.
Applicants were judged on their activities relating to increasing traffic safety while preventing impaired driving traffic crashes, traffic fatalities, juvenile DUI, child safety seat offenses, red light running, and other traffic related offenses. 18 courts have been selected to receive awards: seven low volume (serving less than 30,000 people), nine medium volume (serving 30,000 to 149,999 people), and two high volume (serving 150,000+ people). 15 courts were also selected as honorable mentions.

Lufkin Municipal Court received the award in the Medium Volume category.

Award recipients will be recognized at TMCEC’s “MTSI Conference,” held March 20-22, 2016, at the Omni Dallas Hotel at Park West in Dallas.

City Burning Ban has Been lifted.

October 26, 2015 - The City of Lufkin and Angelina County have lifted the burning. Residence must follow regulation as listed on the Lufkin Fire Department page as you resume burning.




Charlotte Henley elected Chairperson of the Zoo Conservation Outreach Group


October 19, 2015 - Charlotte Henley, Director of Educational Services at the Ellen Trout Zoo, was elected Chairperson of the Zoo Conservation Outreach Group (ZCOG) at the recent annual meeting of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums. The Zoo Conservation Outreach Group is a membership based organization that facilitates conservation activities between US zoos and zoos in Latin America and the Caribbean basin. Some of the projects they have been working on include Andean condors in Argentina, Andean bears in Ecuador, giant armadillos in Brazil, jaguars in Brazil, Chilean flamingos in Chile, the giant anteater in Brazil, and the three-wattled bellbird in Honduras. ZCOG has been a leader in this conservation movement since 1988. In addition to the field conservation projects facilitated, ZCOG engages in capacity building by providing 14 scholarships for Latin American professionals to attend the Association of Zoos and Aquariums professional training programs.
