2015 Annual Report is now available

The 2015 Annual Report is now available for review. It shows crime was down across the city in 2015 compared to the previous year – 16 percent overall.

“The citizens obviously benefit from a lower crime rate because particularly with property crimes, you have loses from businesses and individuals. As a result, insurance rates go up,” Police Chief Gerald Williamson said. “A decreased crime rate is a positive for them as a whole. Our ultimate goal is to reduce crime in any way that we can.”

Williamson credited Lufkin City Manager Keith Wright with allowing the Department additional funding to its 2015 budget for officer overtime, which put more manpower on the street.

“I know that one fact that impacts our crime index is the number of police officers on the street,” Williamson said. “When officers are proactive, it leads to lower crime rates overall.”
