INITIAL FILING PACKET

The City of Lufkin will hold a Municipal Election on May 7th, 2022 for the following positions on the Lufkin City Council:
  • Councilmember Ward No. 1
  • Councilmember Ward No. 3

The first day for filing an application for a place on the ballot is Wednesday, January 19, 2022. An individual may file for the City Council Election beginning at 8:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 19th, 2022, through Friday, February 18th, 2022 at 5:00 p.m.  Candidates may file the required documents in person, by mail, email and/or fax.

Candidates must meet the following criteria per Chapter 141 of the Texas Election Code to be eligible for a place on the ballot:
  • Be a United States Citizen
  • Be eighteen (18) years of age or older
  • Have not been convicted of a felony
  • Have not been determined to be mentally incapacitated
  • A registered voter in the political subdivision
  • A resident of the City of Lufkin for a period no less than twelve (12) months
  • A resident of the Ward for a period of no less than six (6) months
